General information
In one of the world's most beautiful deserts, embark on a memorable self-supported trek through the heart of Wadi Rum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and discover the nomadic culture of the Nabataeans. Ibex, caracals, foxes, desert wolves, and other wildlife will accompany you on your off-the-beaten-path adventure. You'll conclude your journey by visiting Wadi Rum's must-see spots, with their stone arches, hidden wells, and breathtaking landscapes. Your playground will span 75,000 hectares, reaching a peak of 1,800 meters. This gives you an idea of the scale of your immersion in a completely different world. Grand and untamed, the area holds prehistoric treasures that remain untouched to this day, as well as undeciphered messages carved into the rock. Only camels and goats will keep you company on cool nights under a starry sky unlike any you've ever seen. Your Bedouin guides will immerse you in their world and give you all the tips to survive in this very special environment in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia.
ITINERARY
Day 1
Airport pick-up and transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Madaba.
Day 2
Breakfast at the hotel. At 10:00 AM, optional visit to Madaba and its mosaics. Lunch in Madaba and departure for the Wadi Rum desert in the early afternoon. Arrival in the evening (nightfall) at the entrance to Wadi Rum for a change of vehicle and transfer to the eastern part of Wadi Rum. Enjoy an upgraded bivouac and a Bedouin dinner. The night will be basic but still comfortable in a Bedouin tent.
Day 3
Wake up and breakfast in the tent. Prepare for departure into the desert. Check your bags. Departure for the survival course (10-12 km per day) with your guide, camel driver, and camel on the trails at the edge of Wadi Rum. The day will be full of surprises, landscapes worthy of the greatest films, and wadi crossings... you will carefully choose your bivouac site to spend your first night in the magnificent desert.
Days 4 to 7:
Continuation of your survival course. You will learn to recognize edible and medicinal plants in this unique environment. You will manage your fatigue and the weight of your pack. You will travel from valley to valley, from mountain to mountain, from red dunes to golden dunes, to reach the spots for your next bivouacs. You will master the art of making a fire without a lighter, using only the sun and two pieces of wood, you will recognize the constellations to orient yourself at night, and you will track the wolves and caracals that still live wild here. You will also need to visit the water reservoirs dating back to the Nabataean nomads to refill your supplies. Like every evening with the Bedouins, you'll make traditional bread and bake it in the sand. Day by day, you'll master the nomadic life more and more, and you might even find yourself leading the camel caravan.
Day 8
End of the survival course. We'll arrange a meeting in the middle of nowhere with our vehicles to take you to a "luxury" camp in the late morning where a delicious meal will be served. We'll then explore the Wadi Rum area by 4x4 in the afternoon. Enjoy a festive evening around a campfire and spend the night in a luxurious Bedouin tent.
Day 9
Departure around 8:00 am for a private tour with a French-speaking guide of the ancient city of Petra (optional). If you're feeling energetic, you can walk the path that leads to the famous Petra Monastery. We'll have a picnic lunch in Petra amidst the Nabataean temples, following in the footsteps of Indiana Jones in his search for treasure. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel in Petra.
Day 10
After breakfast, we'll depart at 10:00 am for "Little Petra," which we will visit. Then, we'll head to a canyon on the shores of the Dead Sea for a picnic and a short hike with your feet in the water, water level permitting. After lunch, we'll travel along the Dead Sea to reach the lowest point measured on Earth (-431m), where you'll spend the night at a hotel with direct beach access for a swim in the Dead Sea. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. You'll have the option of enjoying a relaxing massage and mud bath.
