Swedish Lapland
extreme cold
General route
Swedish Lapland is a magical destination we've long dreamed of. Located beyond the Arctic Circle in northern Sweden, this Nordic region offers endless snow-covered landscapes, spectacular Northern Lights, shimmering frozen lakes, and a soothing silence that invites contemplation. We've crafted an unforgettable experience and a unique Arctic adventure just for you.
Lapland offers a unique experience, blending adventure, serenity and wonder.
ITINERARY
Day 1 - We will meet you upon arrival at UmeÅ Airport. We will arrange your transfer to Robertsfors.
Our team will welcome you to the "base camp" in the middle of a typical, remote hamlet surrounded by forest. We will introduce you to the location and the natural area where you will be working. The first night will be spent in a former school converted into a dormitory, sauna, and dining hall, all in "Sami style."
Distribution of the equipment you will need during your immersion. We will check your loaned equipment (stove/sleeping system/shelter system/specialized equipment/cutting tools).
Dinner.
Bed assignments.
Overnight in the shelter.
Day 2 - A full day of training and workshops awaits you. You will learn how to cope with low temperatures and protect yourself from the cold: dressing for the cold (theory and practice),
Polar travel techniques (introduction to snowshoeing),
Presentation of the flora and fauna found in this region of the world.
Training on the fundamentals of starting a fire in extreme cold.
Presentation of different types of fuel: advantages and disadvantages.
"Landscape reading": how to interpret your environment to better connect with it? Understanding and decoding snow and its different forms to make the most of it and avoid its pitfalls.
You will also learn about cold-related injuries (prevention/recognition).
Dinner.
Overnight in a shelter.
Day 3 - This morning, we set off into nature. We will offer you warm-up exercises to get your legs moving and warm up. Once you're warm and well-covered, you'll put the knowledge you learned the day before into practice: During your hike, we'll analyze the snowpack and ice quality to ensure safe walking. We'll collect, store, and prepare our drinking water.
Using your sharp tools, we'll build our makeshift shelters. You'll then need to set up camp for the night. You'll quickly need to establish your routines.
Dinner/Overnight under the stars
Day 4 - After breakfast, you'll learn how to pack a pulka (sled). You'll set up camp to head out onto the trails of the far north. The journey to the new training area will reveal incredible landscapes. Once there, you'll need to build your camp again, prepare the fire pit, make your drinking water, and find your supplies (the usual routine).
We'll also teach you how to use signals to signal your location and communicate with any rescuers you might need to contact. Dinner/Night under the stars
Day 5 - Review of the night, visit and comparison of the different shelters, determining what worked well, mistakes to avoid, and areas for improvement…
If you wish, you will learn: the essentials of emergency first aid/management and, if necessary, the transfer of the injured.
We will go ice fishing on a lake. Hoping you catch some fish, we will teach you cooking techniques over a wood fire (Swedish style).
Then we will review truly effective survival equipment and explore additional camping and shelter techniques.
Dinner/Overnight under the stars
Day 6 - End of the survival exercise. This morning brings relief; we return to the warmth! Your training center will seem as luxurious as a five-star hotel. After you have recovered from the experience (hot meal, sauna, etc.), we will take the sled dogs out to teach you how to drive your own team. A wonderful moment of connection between you and the animals.
If you have met the requirements, we will have the honor of presenting you with your training certificate at a friendly gathering. We will also give a short summary of the training, and if your courage and nature allow, you can spend the following night outdoors to perhaps admire the Northern Lights. If not, you can return to the warmth of your own bed.
Day 7 - After breakfast, you will depart on a day trip to Vindeln Forsen. The scenery there is breathtaking. In a vast pine forest, you will cross a rushing river using very large wooden suspension bridges to prepare your "Swedish pizza" by the water's edge. Perhaps after lunch you will be tempted by a cold plunge and a sauna?
Dinner and overnight stay in Umeå
Day 8 - Breakfast and transfer to the airport.

Internship testimonials
"There is no war (among the Eskimos), because they never knew what it was: they had no word in their vocabulary to describe this scourge."
Paul-Emile Victor

This just goes to show that a beautiful plate of pasta can lead to a unique and human experience, beyond anything I could have imagined. Encounters, authenticity, and generosity. Thank you a thousand times, Denis, for what you gave us!
