General route
For eight days, you'll discover the jungle and bushcraft of northern Thailand, on the Burmese border, in the style of Mike Horn. In a pristine environment, in the heart of Lahu country, you'll live in an enchanting and exotic setting. You'll be introduced to survival skills. You'll sleep in bivouacs for four nights, surrounded by waterfalls, caves, vines, moss, rustling sounds, humidity, rice paddies, and the calls of monkeys and amphibians... In short... a superb adventure.
"Leave the main roads, take the paths." - Pythagoras
Day 1
- We will meet you directly at your hotel in the center of Chiang Mai (location to be determined) - Overnight in Chiang Mai - Breakfast and meals not included.
Day 2
- 10:00 AM departure for the Burmese border.
Dinner and overnight stay in a traditional Thai farmhouse in a bamboo bungalow overlooking a magnificent rice paddy in the heart of a peaceful and charming village. You will be given your machete, specially forged and crafted by your guides.
Day 3
- Breakfast - Briefing on the fundamentals of forest survival (what constitutes a survival situation? priorities, dangers, objectives, etc.)
- Departure by pickup truck for the "survival" trek: crossing the villages of Lisou and Lahu with their renowned architecture, you will see magnificent rice paddies in a breathtaking setting of mountains and rainforests.
A 5-hour hike to ascend the ridge of a verdant hill overlooking the surrounding area. Choosing a suitable location for setting up camp. Task allocation. Introduction to bushcraft techniques and setting up a hammock and mosquito net camp in the wild, preparing a Lahu dinner, making bamboo cutlery and plates, observing vegetation, stress management, foraging, a local dinner to share with the Lahu, etc. Overnight in a hammock bivouac.
Day 4
- Continuing the "survival" trek in the forest.
A 1-2 hour walk will be required to reach your second bivouac. Three-quarters of the day will be dedicated to mastering tools and crafting objects and furniture using the natural resources available on site. You'll have time to track animals (there are still tigers, red coatis, buffalo, lorikeets, squirrels, parakeets, etc. in this area), distill water, build a fire without a lighter or matches, forage for food with the Lahu people, and more. You'll gradually become more self-reliant. Overnight camping in hammocks.
Day 5
- At dawn, you'll admire the sunrise over the Burmese mountains; the scenery will be worthy of the greatest films. As soon as day breaks, the "survival" trek continues in the forest, with steep inclines and a machete-based trek through the jungle to clear a path.
You'll descend the valley to reach a beautiful waterfall where you can swim and wash. You'll learn to track animals, distill water, build a fire, forage for food, hunt, and set traps with the Lahu people. You'll camp by the river. The evening will be spent around the campfire, fishing by hand or with a harpoon, setting traps on the river, and spending the night with the Lahu, completely self-sufficient with guidance from our specialists. Overnight in a hammock.
Day 6
- The "survival" trek continues in the forest, where you'll put all your skills to the test in a real-life setting! The camp will be set up on the site of an old Lahu village deep in the forest. An evening of self-sufficiency awaits, including setting up camp, building a fire without a lighter, and preparing dinner—a truly memorable experience! Enjoy a festive evening around the campfire. Overnight in a hammock bivouac.
Day 7
- Continue your "survival" trek to a cave where you'll discover an underground river that you can explore. Then, return to "civilization." Pick-up trucks will be waiting at the jungle exit for your return in the early afternoon. Enjoy an aperitif and a celebration with the entire team. A traditional Chan meal will be served at the farm. Overnight in a bamboo bungalow on the edge of a lush rice paddy surrounded by volcanic mountains.
Day 8
- Breakfast - Transfer to Chiang Mai - Lunch on your own en route. This marks the end of a wonderful adventure! Upon arrival in Chiang Mai, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy Thai massages or visit temples to relax.

Testimonials from the "Thailand Lahu" internship

Thank you for this adventure course in the Thai jungle with the discovery of survival techniques.
The supervision and activities led by Denis were excellent. With Nadia's support, we had a very well-organized trip. I particularly appreciated the time taken for each moment of the day; there was never a rush to complete a task or reach a destination. Time was taken to explore nature, get to know the group, and enjoy this time away from everything.
The management of water and food was particularly appreciated, ensuring everyone had what they needed. I never felt like my life was on the line. It's a blend of sport, adventure, and discovery. It's not an extreme experience where the body is exhausted and tempers flare.
I'll quote Denis: It's your internship, it's up to you to do what you want with it! Despite the organization, the group and the need to move forward, everyone was able to enjoy it at their own pace.
I'm starting to look at the upcoming dates. So maybe see you soon.
Luc

"What are these little guys doing, managing to walk barefoot through the jungle on dizzying slopes with a 15-kilo wicker bag on their head? What's that all about? They manage to build a shelter, cutlery, a plate, and a hammock with two machete blows out of bamboo, while it takes us four hours to set up camp. What are these Black Lahu people doing? Seriously, Jacka is simply breathtaking and incredibly funny! Well done to the organizers!"
Jamel

It's a welcome change from "club" trips! It's also a change from beaches and tourist spots! Thank you for introducing us to a real culture and places I would never have discovered without you!
